Board of Education Receives Suggestions on
Budget Reduction from Community Meeting


Over 50 Parents, Teachers, Administrators, Classified Employees, Labor leaders and Community Members attended three community meetings on budget reductions on Wednesday, January 20, 2010 at 7:00p.m.  The meetings were held at Crozier Middle School, Inglewood High School and Morningside High School.
The following suggestions were made:

  1. The Inglewood School District needs better programs and services to compete with Charter Schools for students.
  2. Consider using digital textbooks to decrease the cost of textbook replacement.
  3. Utilize former employees to provide critical services.
  4. Decrease one hour of the school day.
  5. Increase and Improve parent Involvement to attract and retain students.
  6. All employees should consider taking a pay cut.
  7. If we are losing students we need to reduce students.
  8. Cut extra curriculum.
  9. Make sure teachers count the attendance in the classroom daily.
  10. Have teachers teach more than one subject.

There were several suggestions made at the meeting to improve communication and districts operations.

  1. Improve the District’s Web Site.
  2. Make sure the parents are informed and updated on District Programs and services in a timely manner.
  3. Consider Using U-Tube provided by Foothill College to log student’s Performance.

Questions were raised at the Community Meetings:

  1. How will budget reductions affect Honor and Advanced placement classes?
  2. What is the Advantage of Inglewood Unified over Charter Schools?
  3. Will budget reduction impact safety?


We will be providing answers to the questions over the next weeks.

If you live outside of the Inglewood Unified School District attendance area but would like to attend an IUSD school, please bring a permit from your home school district to the CWA Office and we will do our best to accommodate you. Please note that placement depends on space

  • Progress Report Oct. 2nd, Dec. 11th, March 5th, and May 21st
  • Report Period Nov. 5th, Jan. 29th, Apr. 16th, and Jun. 18th
  • Holidays for the IUSD Sep. 7th, Nov. 11th, 25th, 26th, and 27

  • On December 10, 2004, the San Francisco County Superior Court approved the notice of settlement in Eliezer Williams, et al. v. State of California, et al. The court ordered that CDE make available information regarding the provisions of the settlement and the process by which students on whose behalf the lawsuit was filed may file objections to the settlement. In keeping with the court's order, four documents are included with this memorandum. You will also find them posted and available for downloading on CDE's Web site, http://www.cde.ca.gov/eo/ce/wc/index.asp.

    Parents and Guardians:

    Pursuant to California Education Code section 35186, you are hereby notified that:

  • There should be sufficient textbooks and instructional materials. That means each pupil, including English learners, must have a textbook or instructional materials, or both, to use in the class and to take home to complete required homework assignments.
  • School facilities must be clean, safe, and maintained in good repair.
