Principals Message
Welcome to the domain of Clyde Woodworth Elementary School, where the Cougar Family continuously makes progress toward enriching students’ learning and experiences. The Cougar Family consists of administrators, teachers, support staff, parents, and community representatives who care and share their talents, skills, and expertise to steer our students toward becoming future lifelong productive citizens in
the global community.
In 2007–2008 staff, parents, and students worked to expose our students to external resources that expand their knowledge beyond their community. City Honors dancers and performers share their talents; Hope Foundation volunteers read to our students; and students participated in the Men Reading program.
Clyde Woodworth Elementary School is a unique urban elementary school on the road to academic excellence. We continuously makeprogress toward enhancing student learning and enriching our students’ life experiences through education. For the 2007–2008 school year, we made history, gaining 40 points and achieving an Academic Performance Index (API) score over 700.
Our school motto is “Help Shine a Light in a Young Mind…Aim High.” We’ve maintained our population of over six hundred students. All members of our school community have played an important part in helping our students achieve their goals as well as develop and enhance their skills in a manner aligned to a standards-based curriculum with
individualized instructional techniques.
In 2007–2008, our staff teamed with parents to establish a new Parent Center to promote sharing responsibilities for our students’ achievement. We developed training workshops, both academic and social, and increased parent involvement and knowledge in helping their students reach individual objectives in writing, math, and reading, and fine art.
The whole school community actively participated in parent programs, including the School Site Council.
Students requiring academic intervention participated in additional programs during and after school, and we opened a new Reading Lab. For the 2007–2008 school year, our students again participated in various programs: Gifted/GATE, Peer Mediators, Student of the Month, Drill Team, Music Program (including placing in the District Science Fair),
Spelling Bee, and ongoing theme based assemblies. Our students were the recipients of awards for “Best Multicultural Performers” and Wood Award Winners for Movie Production Projects.

We say “ROAR” to our Cougar family for more than meeting our testing goals for 2007–2008. Cougars rode the waves to the shores of success: our Second Grade Team was inducted in the California Standards
Tests Hall of Fame. We can and will continue to aim high.
For 2008–2009 our motto is “Cougars Spanning the Globe to Achieve.” We will continue to increase the number of students scoring Proficient on the California Standards Tests.
Please visit our campus, feel the spirit, and share in the joys!
